Joan Morgan, fruit historian, pomologist and author of ‘The New Book of Apples’ with Alison Richards, illustrated by Elisabeth Dowle. For the past thirty years Joan has been studying and writing about fruit. Apples are her first love, but now she is writing a book about pears, which will cover the history of the pear and contain a directory to the over 500 varieties growing in the Defra National Fruit Collections at Brogdale in Kent.
Joan is author of ‘Paradise out of a Common Field; The Pleasures and Plenty of the Victorian garden’, written in collaboration with Alison Richards. Joan is also a contributor to ‘The Downright Epicure. Essays on Edward Ashdown Bunyard (1878-1939)’ published May 2007 by Prospect Books
